Community Garden Coordinator

LTCES has an exciting opportunity for a part-time Community Garden Coordinator to help shape the new Lake Trail Community School Garden as a natural space for gardening education, food security projects, programs, and events

The Community Garden Coordinator will foster and support inclusive programming, community outreach, volunteer management, and on-going garden maintenance. They will work closely with the Community School Coordinator and Programmer on program planning, the LTCES Healthy Food Coordinator to integrate plantings for the free salad bar program, and Indigenous Education as we move forward with indigenous plantings and education within the garden. They will grow positive relationships with community partners. 

Duties Include

  • Coordinate the garden maintenance, planting and harvesting.
  • Reach out to groups and residents to plant, maintain and harvest the garden through volunteer work parties. 
  • Manage equipment, tools, building materials etc.
  • Coordinate the distribution of the harvest to the salad bar program during shoulder seasons, and to community partner organizations and volunteers over the summer months. 
  • Assist in organizing community food celebrations and other events in the garden, as time allows.
  • Work in collaboration with the LTCES Coordinator and Programmer to implement an education plan that includes workshops and events for all ages in the garden, with an emphasis on Lake Trail Community School students during the school year. 
  • Work in collaboration with Indigenous Education on Indigenous plantings and education opportunities in the garden. 
  • Work in collaboration with community groups. 
  • Coordinate and attend meetings with the Garden Committee.  Prepare reports as necessary. 
  • Contribute towards the LTCES website, e-newsletter and social media and maintain communication through email.
