TEMPORARY, PART-TIME HEALTHY FOOD COORDINATOR POSITION

 

LTCES is seeking a part-time, temporary healthy food coordinator to cover a leave. The contract will be in place until December 20th, or until the return of the incumbent, at which time the contract will be re-assesed. 

 

Reporting to the Executive Director, the LTCES Healthy Food Coordinator manages our healthy food programs including the weekly salad bar, healthy snack program, food pantry, and food at special events.

 

The Healthy Food Coordinator works in close collaboration with:

 

  • The LTCES Executive Director on program planning.

  • The LTCES Garden Coordinator on supporting connections between the Lake Trail Community School Garden and food programs. 

  • The LTCES Programmer to ensure that program participants receive healthy snacks/meals at LTCES programs and events. 

  • The Lake Trail Community School Staff Community – Building a positive relationship with the school staff at LTCES is key to the success of our community school partnership.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Develops menus and determines quantities and varieties of food items to be prepared.

  • Establishes a food preparation schedule to ensure food is ready in the proper quantity at the appointed time.

  • Food sourcing and purchasing:

    • Fosters relationships with community partner organizations to support the needs of LTCES food programs.

    • Builds relationships with local farmers and producers.

  • Provides training, scheduling, and supervision of community volunteers.

  • Encourages and facilitates the meaningful participation of youth as volunteers in the salad bar program. 

  • On-site supervision of meal preparations, serving, and clean-up.

  • Follows VIHA and FoodSafe standards.

  • Ensures that cooking environments are engaging, welcoming, suitable, clean, and safe. 

Outreach and Promotions

  • Works with the LTCES staff team to bring awareness to healthy food programs through LTCES social media channels and e-newsletters.

Administration 

  • Responds to general inquiries regarding LTCES healthy food programs.

  • Ensures maintenance and tabulation of attendance and statistics.

  • Maintains timesheet and mileage reports.

  • Makes regular written and verbal reports as required by the Executive Director.

  • Is familiar with and implements LTCES policies, procedures, and practices.

  • Experience managing budgets.

 

Skillset 

 

  • Interest in community building and healthy foods with an emphasis on youth. 

  • Excellent written and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and meet expectations in a variety of tasks. 

  • Adaptable to shifting priorities. 

  • Experience working in a non-profit setting is an asset.

 

Qualifications 

 

  • Minimum three years of experience working in the food service industry. 

  • Experience supervising volunteers is an asset. 

  • Criminal Record Check. 

  • Food Safe Certification.

  • Access to a vehicle. Mileage reimbursements made by LTCES. 

 

Availability

 

  • Salad Bar 

    • 12 hours per week.

    • Tuesday afternoon and early evenings – Shopping and preparations.

    • Wednesday daytime – Serving and clean-up.

    • Communications with volunteers and community partners throughout the week. 

 

  • Healthy Snacks and Food Pantry

    • Approximately 125 hours over 12 weeks.

    • Shopping.

    • An evening for preparation of snacks.

    • A daytime snack serving for youth. 

    • Communications with volunteers and community partners throughout the week. 

 

Remuneration: $23 p/hour.
