Community Programs

Community schools are natural centres for activity in neighbourhoods and can play a key role in improving outcomes for communities.

LTCES offers regular community drop-in programming, workshops, and events, providing safe and accessible points of connection for community members.

We are continually building community partner relationships and providing joint programs such as the Repair Café, Earth Day Free Store, and Community Connections Day.

We are working to build connections to place and land through use of the Roy Stewart Morrison Forest and our Community School Garden and Outdoor Hub.

LTCES is hosting free Rock Drumming workshops!
This will be the first in a series of Community Connections Workshops over the summer.

All of the materials will be provided : individual practice pads, sticks, and a full drum kit that will be shared.

The first half of the workshop is done on practice pads, with each participant playing their own
pad. The second half of the workshop is on the drum kit.

Students at Lake Trail School who are interested in participating in the workshop are welcome to stay after school until the workshop starts.

Facilitated by Joy on Drums

Joy has been teaching lessons on the drum kit since 2005, offering one on one private lessons, group classes, camps and workshops. She specializes in developing strong curriculum that is comprehensive, motivating and fun. She offers patient and supportive guidance with a low barrier approach that builds confidence in her students. Each lesson takes you step by step in proper technique, rudiments, stick control, reading, coordination, beats and songs. Beginners of all ages enjoy working with her.

Past teaching includes: Rufus Drum Shop, Girls Rock Camp Vancouver, Ladies Rock Camp, Raincity Housing Downtown Eastside Rock Camp, Drum Together! Thursdays, May – October

5-8pm

This weekly community event is an invitation for neighbors, friends, and visitors to gather at the Lake Trail Community Garden. The Community Garden is co-lead by the Garden Coordinator and the people invested in making decisions around what to plant, grow, and nurture!

A Work/Party means we spend time tending the garden, weeding, watering, planting, and harvesting. Afterwards we all gather for a potluck meal in circle where we share a prompt about our life, and eat a delicious meal with comrades!

Everyone is welcome!

Returning in 2027

Organizations with youth programs are invited to set up information stations at the school. Youth will visit with organizations to learn about your programs and make connections.

Does your organization offer programs for youth? Set up a information table and engage with students!
